I then decided to go back to the card I was originally working on and give it another go… still not that happy with it… too much stamping on the left.. what do you think?  I was trying to keep the card simple and quick but it has taken me longer to make this card than the first one..

Project recipe for first card:

• Stamp Set/s: The Open Seas and Teeny Tiny Sentiments
• Card: Not Quiet Navy, Whisper White, Basic Gray and Cherry Cobbler.
• Ink:  Not Quiet Navy
• Accessories/Tools:  snail, dimensionals, paper cutter, bone folder, sponges, paper snips, Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine, Crop-a-dile, brass eyelet (retired), word window punch, decorative label punch, Designer Series Paper: Nautical Expedition.

This is a Clean and Simple card using The Open Sea stamp set (p18 mini).  I used the masking technique to create the strip of stamping along the top.

Did you notice how well the Birthday Wishes sentiment stands out on the designer series paper?  The sentiment was embossed using white embossing powder and the heat tool.  I also embossed the ship using black embossing powder and the heat tool.

I did some fussy cutting of the sails and the water to give the image some dimension.  It is hard to see in the picture but I also sponged clouds behind the ship.  Here is a close up:

There is only a little bit of stamping on the card as I mainly used the Designer Series Paper Beau Chateau (p128 IB&C).  I was able to cut the cute pretty little flowers and the rooster from the papers.  Here is a close up:

Today’s card is another request from my mother-in-law to make a sympathy card.  I have used the new Sale-a-Bration Designer Series Papers Everyday Elegance and Neutrals Collection Paper Stack (p130 IB&C).

I decided to use the same layout and the green/blue colours that are in the background of Kathy’s card.  The Designer Series Paper I used is from the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue Everyday Enchantment.   I also coloured in my butterfly’s images.  Here is my card:

Today’s post is a card I made last night on request from my mother-in-law.  Her friend’s dog passed away yesterday and she wanted to send her a sympathy card as she often looked after the dog.  I used the D is for Dog stamp set (p62 IB&C) and the tree is from Thoughts & Prayers stamp set (p112 IB&C).  The paper is from the new Sale-a-Bration Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper.

You can’t tell by the photo but I also embossed the leaves.  I used my VersaMarker on each of the leaves before heat embossing with clear embossing powder.  This gives the leaves a bit of a shadowing effect and a textured surface.

I used the Just Add Ink #101 – Sketch Challenge layout for the card.  I was particularly inspired by JAI Design Team member Kathy Tanner.  Kathy did some beautiful brayering on her card and although I don’t own a brayer (yet!) I used my Stampin’ Pastels (p146 I&C) to get a similar but much softer effect.
