In Memory of Benny

Almost two years ago I said goodbye to a special little boy, Benny Wills. Ben was only four years old when he lost his battle with an inoperable brain stem tumour.  Making this card brings back a lot of memories about Ben and the great friendship he had with my son.  I am very teary eyed as I write this post.

The reason I have made this card is it is part of a gift to Peter Overton who will be speaking at The Benny Wills Gala Dinner .  This dinner is an annual fundraising event, the proceeds of which will support the Benny Wills Brain Tumour Research Program at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, in the hope that a cure can be found for this deadly disease.

If you live in Canberra and wish to join me at the dinner on Saturday 3rd September then you can still purchase tickets {Click HERE for more information}.  Alternatively, you may wish to donate to this important research program {Click HERE for more information}.

A little more about the card, Ben loved butterflies so the card had to include them.  Take a close look:

The gift I am putting together for Peter Overton from 60 Minutes is a box of my handmade cards.  Here is the box I made to hold the cards:

Here is a close up of the bird:

I used the Inkspirations Challenge #83 sketch for the layout of the card and box.

My inspiration for these projects came from a card on the front of the New Idea Book & Catalogue due to be release on 1 September.

School Backpack

I made this cute little back pack way back at the beginning of the year for my son’s teacher.  The front pocket opens up and I wrote the teacher a little message.  I followed a tutorial from Splitcoaststampers <click HERE>…. but altered measurements to suit me.  I used the Hostess Only stamp set Apple Blossoms (p12 IB&C) that is only available until 31 August 2011.  If you love any of the hostess only stamps in the current Idea Book & Catologue and want to earn them for FREE then contact me today to book a workshop.

The back of the backpack has two ribbon straps.  In the backpack I put a number of little things for the teacher:

Kimono Kids – SC342

I have been following the Stampin’ Up! 2011 Artisan Award Blog Hop and have seen some amazing projects using Stampin’ Up! products.  I was blown away when I saw the card that Summer Stone made using the Kimono Kids stamp set (p156 IB&C).  She had done a lot of fussing cutting but I loved how she had made the skirt flair out so I just had to have a go, this is a close up of the skirt as it is hard to see this detail in the first photo:

I used the Splitcoast Stampers Card Sketch Challenge SC342 for my layout:

The reason for all the extra pearls was inspired by Connie Collins Artisan Award winning card.  She made an amazing card with heaps of swirly pearls that she had placed freehand.

The teeny tiny flowers on the little girl have been punched out with a NEW Lace Ribbon Border punch that will be available when the new Australian catalogue goes live on 1 September.  As a demonstrator I got to order the punch in my pre-order this month.

Note: Kimono Kids Stamp Set, Very Vanilla taffeta Ribbon and Elegant Soiree DSP used on this card is retiring at the end of 31 August.  See the Last Chance List (near the top right hand side of the screen) to see what else will be retiring this month.

Happy Birthday Gail!

It is my sister’s birthday today – Happy Birthday Gail!  This is the card I made with an extra gift attached.  The flower centre is actually a decorated hair band.  I was going to make it a brooch but after a discussion with my husband we decided she isn’t a brooch person so I made it a hair band instead.  The brooch was made using the Big Shot and the Circles #2 die (p153 IB&C) with an Antique Brad in the centre (p139 IB&C).  I got the idea when I saw some beautiful handmade brooches made by Kelly Hanson.  Here is a closer look at it:

I used the stamp set Friends Never Fade (p71 IB&C) and the Love Letter Designer Series Paper (p125 IB&C).  This paper will retire at end of 31 August!  The sentiment is from On Your Birthday (p102 IB&C). I wanted to make sure that when the hair band was removed from the card that the card would still look at a nice card and not like something was missing from it so the hair band was only attached by a clip (p139 IB&C).  Here is the card without the hair band attached:

Now the card was way too thick for an envelope so I made a box for it:

I hope she likes it!

Baby Boy Card

This is another Fun and Fast Notes card (p46 IB&C), as I mentioned in my last post I have used this stamp set time and time again as it is so verstile.  My favourite stamp from the set is the baby pram.  This stamp set will retire on 31 August.

Also retiring at 31 August is the ribbon used on this card.I used Certainly Celery 1.6cm (5/8″) Grosgrain Ribbon and 3.2cm (1/8″) Whisper White Taffeta ribbon.

Here is a close look at the ribbon:

I really wished I had run the piece of certainly celery cardstock through the BigShot machine with the perfect polka dots embossing folder (151 IB&C).  Every time I look at this card I think the certainly celery is too flat.  Next time…

Stampin’ Up! Last Chance List

Every year Stampin’ Up! retires stamp sets, designer series papers and accessories to make room for new things in their annual catalogue to be released on 1 September (as a demonstrator I got to take a look at the new Catalogue today and so many exciting new products coming!!).

Today Stampin’ Up! have announced the list of retired products.  One of the retiring stamp sets is Fun & Fast Notes (p46 IB&C).  I have used this set a lot as it has both great images and words that you can move around to suit the type of card you are making.  The card pictured above is made using two different stamps from the set.  I just put a piece of card stock over the area of the stamp I don’t want to ink up before applying the ink or I use a Stampin’ Write marker to ink up the image.

The great thing about the retired list for you is that some of the retired items are on sale!  So grab your highlighter, your catalogue and a comfy seat!   Highlight your current catalogue with all the sets leaving and be sure to call or email me before 31 August to order. Click HERE to download pdf list.

VERY important information:  When it’s gone, it’s gone!  You should order quickly or take your chances that it MAY be gone completely!  If you order from me, I will get the order in asap but there isn’t a guarantee that they will still be in stock. So order early…

Here is a close up of the card:

Phone or EMAIL ME to place your order, if you don’t already have a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator.
