In Memory of Benny

Almost two years ago I said goodbye to a special little boy, Benny Wills. Ben was only four years old when he lost his battle with an inoperable brain stem tumour.  Making this card brings back a lot of memories about Ben and the great friendship he had with my son.  I am very teary eyed as I write this post.

The reason I have made this card is it is part of a gift to Peter Overton who will be speaking at The Benny Wills Gala Dinner .  This dinner is an annual fundraising event, the proceeds of which will support the Benny Wills Brain Tumour Research Program at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, in the hope that a cure can be found for this deadly disease.

If you live in Canberra and wish to join me at the dinner on Saturday 3rd September then you can still purchase tickets {Click HERE for more information}.  Alternatively, you may wish to donate to this important research program {Click HERE for more information}.

A little more about the card, Ben loved butterflies so the card had to include them.  Take a close look:

The gift I am putting together for Peter Overton from 60 Minutes is a box of my handmade cards.  Here is the box I made to hold the cards:

Here is a close up of the bird:

I used the Inkspirations Challenge #83 sketch for the layout of the card and box.

My inspiration for these projects came from a card on the front of the New Idea Book & Catalogue due to be release on 1 September.

  1. Absolutely stunning card & gift box Deb! Your choice of colours & elements is perfect. I trust the Gala fundraiser will be hugely successful & a beautiful tribute to Benny.

  2. I am really touched by your story, Deb … and by your thoughtful kindness in making this gift for Peter. I am sure it will be really appreciated. The butterflies are just gorgeous. Love the gloss! Hugs xxaxx

  3. Absolutely gorgeous, both of them. What a great cause. It’s so sad to think of one so young having to be lost to such a rotten disease. It may not be eloquent but, man, cancer bites.

    Thanks for playing.

  4. Truly beautiful card and decorated box to hold the cards. The layers and texture with the distressing really bring it to life. I’m so sorry about the loss of the young boy; it is heartbreaking for anyone to lose their life in such a manner but especially difficult when it is one so young. Your caring really shines through in this project.
