Lego Stormtropper

My son is heading to another Lego theme birthday party! This time the invitation was a picture of Starwars Lego.  I  have seen online a card that had a Lego figurine in a Stampin’ Up! treat cup and I loved that idea.

For my card layout, I have used  Just Add Ink #132 – Sketch Challenge .  I haven’t been able to play along with their challenges for such a long time!  So  I am glad I was able to put a card into this week’s challenge.  You should take a look at the Just Add Ink design team cards – they are just gorgeous.

More about my card, it has been designed to pull out the black tag to the side of the Lego figurine.  There is a hole at the back so the figurine can be taken out.  I have decorated the inside of the card so that the Lego logo should line up in view through the treat cup (once it has been emptied).

I have used two stamp sets that will retire here in Australia on 31 August: Extreme Elements and Party This Way.  They are great stamps sets for kids.

Simply Stampin’ Challenge #74 – Colour Challenge

This week’s challenge at Simply Stampin‘ is a colour challenge.  You need to use Old Olive, Pretty in Pink, Calypso Coral and Very Vanilla on your project.

I have been struggling a bit with the colour challenges as they often take me out of my comfort zone!  At the same time, I love a good challenge and was excited this week to use some of my *New* Stampin’ Up! goodies! One of the great benefits of being an Stampin’ Up! demonstrator.  The Betsy Blossom stamp set is a’ sneak peek’ from the 2012-2013 Annual Catalogue.  The sentiment comes from Curly Cute stamp set (p111 IB&C).

I have used the currently popular Triple Time Stamping Technique on my card.  I followed a YouTube video by Dawn Olchefske, Click HERE to take a look.

Dawn’s measurements are in inches, for the metric measurements that I used:

14.8 x 10.5cm – Old Olive (base of card)
14 x 9.7cm – Very Vanilla
12.5 x 8.2cm – Old Olive
11.5 x 7.2cm – Very Vanilla
10.8  x 6.5cm – Old Olive
10 x 5.7cm – Very Vanilla (top)

Head over to the Simply Stampin’ blog site and take a look at the other Design Team members beautiful samples.

Simply Stampin’ Challenge #73 – Sketch Challenge

This week’s challenge at Simply Stampin‘ is a sketch challenge.  I used the beautiful designer series papers Paisley Petals (p128 IB&C).

This card was inspired by a french Stampin’ Up! demonstrator Cécile Ortiz.  I loved how she layered the flower from the Friends Never Fade stamp set (p75 IB&C).  I used two layers on my card for the main flower, here is  a closer look:

Head over to the Simply Stampin’ blog site and take a look at the sketch.  I would love to see you play along!

Simply Stampin’ Challenge #72 – Masculine Cards

Let’s hear it for the boys! This week’s challenge at Simply Stampin‘ is a theme challenge based on Masculine Cards.  Although I have used the dinosaur stamp from Dinoroar (p59 IB&C) as my main image this card is not going to a young boy!  It is a bit “tongue in cheek” for a friend that is turning the big 40!

I wanted to go the old worn look and the Well Worn paper (p129 IB&C) are perfect for this.  Do you like the cogs?  These were made from the pretty Flirtatious Speciality paper (p127 IB&C).  I punched and cut them into cog shapes then using my sponge on the ink pad I changed their colour from Pumpkin Pie to Early Espresso.  I liked how some of the Pumpkin Pie colour is slightly showing through.

There is also a sneak peek on this card, the Happy Birthday sentiment is from a new stamp set called Memorable Moments to be released in the new Annual Catalogue on 1 September.

Cheers Deb

Ninjago Owl

My children are going to a Ninjago party next weekend and I decided to make the birthday card based on the theme.  After a bit of thinking and looking at the party invite I decided I could make my owl into a little Lego Kai.

My son wanted me to make all of the Ninjago figures and make them spin together.  I thought that was a bit challenging but it did give me the idea to put the owl onto a spinner.  This allows the owl to spin around! So much fun!

The layout for the card is based on this week’s Freshly Made Sketches #46 Challenge:

I don’t have instructions on how to make this card but if you would like some more details then please leave a comment or email me.  I have listed below the supplies I have used.

Some tips for making the mask, punch out an owl body.  Cut out mask shape by hand then put back into the punch and using the middle sized outer circle from the Owl punch make two holes.  I then used my paper snips to trim the paper.  Next place the cardstock into the Elegant Lines embossing folder and emboss lines:

Simply Stampin’ Challenge #71 – Colour

I really struggled with my card this week for the Simply Stampin’ Challenge.  I decided to put together a card using some retiring products but my mojo seemed to disappear and nothing would work for me!  I then put the above card to the side and started on another card but made a big mistake (to big to recover from!). So I came back to the above card and made some more changes.  I am not completely unhappy with the card, just a bit heavy-handed with the color spritzer tool and maybe a bit too much bling!  My daughter loves it so maybe I am being a bit tough on myself…

I really hope you are up for the Simply Stampin’ Challenge this week and will play along.  It is a really beautiful colour combination:

I am hoping to get some uninterrupted time in my craft room tomorrow morning!  Let’s hope my mojo returns!

Cheers Deb
